Voluntary COVID-19 Testing for MHA Residents
Voluntary COVID-19 testing was made available to all residents of the Memphis Housing Authority May 18th and 19th. The effort was coordinated in collaboration with the TN National Guard, the Shelby County Health Department, the City of Memphis/Shelby County COVID Task Force, and the Memphis Housing Authority and provided a much-needed service to residents who often do not have access to reliable transportation. The testing event was orchestrated over a 2-day period and took place on location at four properties owned and managed by the Memphis Housing Authority (Kefauver Terrace, Jefferson Square Tower, Montgomery Plaza, and Askew Place) and one privately managed property (Legends North). Residents who participated expressed their appreciation and acknowledged the level of care demonstrated by all persons involved in the event. Nearly 500 people were tested, and nonprofit partners, the Mid-South Food Bank and Enchanted, provided 50lbs of fresh produce boxes for each family and arts and crafts kits for the children.
Many thanks to everyone who assisted in making this event a success.
